Bringing the Outside World into Your Classroom
In the April 2013 edition of Tech Tips, I shared with you all sorts of live wildlife webcams from Wisconsin and around the world. I would like to expand that idea beyond wildlife. With tools like Skype and Google Hangouts, it is now pretty easy to bring experts (local or not) into your classroom. Think about the content you are teaching right now. Are there contacts available that could enhance your instruction? I know the idea of finding people can be daunting. Start small and look for local experts. We have a pretty awesome staff at ASD with a lot of experience. Send out an email...
"My class is learning about _____ (whatever content you are learning about), if you have an interest in this topic. My class would like to Skype/Hangout/or visit in person. Let me know if you are interested." Your Tech Team would love to help make the event run smoothly. Let us know if we can help. Below are some links to outside resources for virtual classroom speakers. |

New Staff Notebooks
|
We are really excited to report that new staff laptops have arrived! Technically they are in the category of “notebooks” …just in case you hear them referred to as “staff notebooks”
Our tech team is currently setting up the new machines for our network and with all of the software we need. We will be sending out a delivery schedule soon. How you can help get ready! Files on your computer hard drive need to be moved or they will be lost. Many staff have files saved on hard drives in folders named Desktop, Libraries, My Documents, Downloads, etc.
Check out the “infographic” on the left to help guide you through this process **THIS IS IMPORTANT! Expanding file storage capacity costs $8,500 per server. We can’t afford a new file server for each building to accommodate personal files. Now is the time to move your personal files out of your server folder. As always, a couple of pictures of you and your family is okay to use for desktop backgrounds, website profiles, etc. **Your personal iTunes account that takes up 20+ GB of space is not okay. **A folder named “family vacation” or “insert your child’s name” that takes up 8GB of space of personal pictures is not okay. Please move these kinds of folders & files to your home computer or other external storage. We can help you move your personal files to an external source which includes a flash drive, CD/DVD, external hard drive, your personal cloud storage space, etc. PLEASE contact me, a member of the tech team or your building LMS for help or with questions! |
