Backchannels and Student ResponseWhat is a backchannel? A backchannel is an online ongoing discussion that happens during your instruction. Basically, students would be able to participate and ask questions, digitally, during a presentation or exercise.
What is a student response site? A student response site is an online tool that digitally collects student responses to questions created by you. There are all sorts of backchannel and student response sites. The articles and links below highlight just a few. My newest favorite site has to be Kahoot. If you haven't seen Kahoot, check out the video on the right. Kahoot is an interactive game-based trivia game. Students respond to answers and receive points based on if they are correct or not and on how quickly they respond to the question. |

Where is the safest place to save something on my computer?
A. Hard Drive
|
B. Sticky Notes Software |
C. My Server Folder |
D. My Desktop |
The correct answer is......C
Remember that saving to your desktop and using the Sticky Notes should only be for temporary saving. Both of these options can be unstable and are not backed up on our system. Saving to your hard drive is a better option, but there is no "back-up" of your hard drive if it fails. The best place to save important information is on your server folder. Our servers are backed up each night and misplaced files can be retrieved from previous backups. Please only utilize our servers for saving school related files. Personal files should be saved using an alternative method (jump drive, external hard drive, CD/DVD, etc.).
If you have any questions on where or how to save important files, feel free to contact a member of the tech team to help you out.

Google Chrome Extension Spotlight: "Save to Google Drive"
|
The video on the left spotlights the Google Chrome Extension "Save to Google Drive". This extension allows users to take a screenshot image of any website and saves it automatically to your Google Drive. This could be a great tool for archiving live events or for taking screenshots from websites that change a lot. |
Don't Forget About My Big CampusWith our growing use of Google Apps For Education, there has been a reduced use in My Big Campus. This is not a complaint, Googles Apps is a great tool. I have had a few people ask me, "Should I use Google Apps or My Big Campus?". The answer is...Use the best tool for the job. It isn't either/or, it is probably both.
