For this edition of Tech Tips, I will be using the free website creator www.weebly.com. I'm using Weebly because it provides some flexibility with showing digital content.
Flipping Your Classroom
The idea of the flipped classroom is having your content available to your students online. Students in your classroom would view the content the night before, as needed during class, or whenever they need it. Your classroom then becomes a space where you are providing enrichment or interventions based on how the content was mastered. The role of the teacher is that of a facilitator. Click on "The Flipped Classroom" link at the top of the page to find out more.
Using Document Cameras in the Classroom
I know document cameras don't seem like cutting edge technology, but document cameras allow you to take a non-digital media and and show it through your projector or computer. It amazes me how students will react differently by simply displaying content this way. Our district has recently purchased iPevo cameras (see picture) to check out through your LMC. The following articles provide classroom examples for using doc cameras in the classroom.

Web 2.0 Tool Spotlight: Socrative
Socrative is an online student response system. There are two parts to Socrative, a teacher portal and a student portal. From the teacher portal you can control the response system. You can poll your students, ask true/false or multiple choice questions, or create online student quizzes. Students are able to access their side of the portal by going to a teacher directed webpage and assigned room number (provided by socrative). The best part of Socrative is that the student portal is accessible from any web enabled device. Students can respond on laptops, netbooks, iPad/iPod, smartphone, etc. Watch the video on the right to see more.
